Roy Albert Schultz

The death of Roy Albert Schultz occurred peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital Barrie Ontario on April 30, 2023. He was a survivor like no other from many serious health events and kept on enjoying life with an unbelievable sense of humour.

Roy was in his 80th year. He was born in Hoyle Ontario on October 9th, 1943 to his parents Lester and Olga Schultz and was the youngest of five children. He was the loving husband of Edith (nee Neal) who were Married on October 26, 1968 and had 53 years together. He was father to 4 sons, Shawn (Sharon), Kyle (Kim), Blair (Karen) and Brent (Heidi) and Grandfather to 8 Schultz grandchildren, Briana, Cameron, Benjamin, Kara, Grant, Lesley, Georgia and Brinley.

He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Joyce (Bob, Jim), Frances (Richard) and brother Mervyn (Theresa) and brother in laws Jack Camick, Fred Gardner and Neal brothers, Stanley (Vivian), Clarence, David, John, and Glenn. Roy is survived by his Sister Shirley Camick, sister in laws Ada Gardner, Joyce and Treana Neal, Beth (Neal) Odell, and brother in law Allen (Linda) Neal. He will be lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Roy received his early education at the Hoyle Public School and his secondary education at Timmins O'Gorman Technical School. After High School in 1962 at the age of 19, he left his family home in Porcupine Ontario, going to Sudbury Ontario to join Ontario Hydro's, four year Electrical Apprenticeship program. In 1966 he graduated, and worked as a Maintenance Electrician, stationed in Sudbury, and Abitibi Canyon. In the fall of 1973 he was transferred to New Liskeard, Ontario as an Electrical Maintenance Sub Foreman, later he acted in the position of Foreman and eventually as the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for North Eastern Region. Roy was happiest when he worked out in the field with other Electricians doing maintenance, repair work and managing his crew members. In 1993 Hydro was changing the work force and started offering early retirement. He quickly took advantage of this opportunity and retired with an early retirement pension at the age of fifty.

Roy took great pride in his homes. He did many projects like, making recreation rooms, remodelling rooms for better usage, adding a complete addition to the New Liskeard home. This allowed the boys room for a pool table, hot tub, and sauna to add to the pool he had installed in earlier years. He was always known for having the greenest grass and well manicured lawns at all his homes. Everyone knew Roy for spending hours sitting in his garage, on his rocking chair, watching and waving at everyone.

Socializing and going to parties was important to Roy, He loved to dance and he was especially good at doing the polka. He was even crowned the Northern Ontario Polka Champion in 1977 after finishing 2nd the year before.

Roy was kept busy taking his sons to many of their sporting activities, travelling throughout Ontario. He loved watching their hockey, soccer, baseball games, and track and field meets. He was so proud when his sons or their team came out on top.

The outdoors was always part of his life. He spent countless hours fishing in the Kenogami River. When he got his own boat he was out fishing with his boys or taking boat rides on Lake Temiskaming or up the river. In the winter time, it was always ice fishing in his homemade hut or ski-doing out on the trails or lake. He took pride in making an ice rink in our back yard for the boys and their friends to skate and play hockey for hours on winter days. In the fall, walking the bush trails and hunting small game birds was a yearly event. Later years, he loved having Lake Simcoe to look at from his bedroom window, sitting on the deck or from his favourite chair in the family room.

Travelling the world was something that brought him joy. He took trips to many countries, several cruises and was part of welcome world curling group (as a non curler) going to different countries. His Last trip to New Zealand and Australia was a highlight which he talked about often. Roy's health prevented him from many trips he had really wanted to go on.

A celebration of his life will be held at his family home 881 Adams Road in Alcona, on Lake Simcoe at 2 pm, May 26, 2023.
