Berry, (Marion) JEAN (Westgate) Our beautiful Mom and Grammie passed away in her 92nd year on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023, peacefully at Roberta Place Long Term Care Home, Barrie. Jean was a devoted and loving wife for 52 years to the late Bob Berry (Islington), cherished mother to Lynn(Mario), Jack, Gayle(Rick), Liane(John). Her legacy will live on in her grandchildren Shawna(Vanessa), Ryan(Joanne), Jeffrey(Brennyn), Courtney(Eric), Kelly(Leslie) Matthew and Mitchell. Great Grandmother to Liviya/Lauren and Harper. She will be missed by her sisters in law Irene and Alison and was a loving & caring Auntie Jean to her many nieces & nephews.
Jean was born in East Angus, Que and married Bob in an “unheard of” double wedding ceremony with her sister Carolyn(Brian) on June 18 1955. Jean spent much of her Toronto life volunteering with SCAW( Sleeping Children Around the World), Islington United Church Women and Applewood Shaver House. She enjoyed writing and dedicated her time to helping edit Murray Dryden’s book “With God Nothing is Impossible”. Jean was known to her kids to “disappear on adventures”, usually ending up in Montreal, Lennoxville or Fort-Coulonge, Que, and often showed up un-announced to her Montreal kids, giddy that she “fooled us all”. She tirelessly cheered HER Toronto Raptors(favourite Kyle Lowry), announcing her fan retirement upon their NBA Championship win in 2019.
In lieu of flowers, Jean would graciously appreciate any donation to Sleeping Children Around the World, COPE Service Dogs Barrie or Lions Foundation of Canada. Our gratitude to staff at Home Area 2 Roberta Place for the grace, love and dignity shown to Mom, as well as Marianella. At Jean’s request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Life is planned for Sunday July 23rd at Applewood Shaver House 1-3PM, 450 The West Mall, Etobicoke. Ont. M9C 1E9.
