Ian Glenn Rutledge

April 28, 1957 — November 14, 2022

It is with great sadness the family of Ian G. Rutledge (Kakeeshibakeejic), originally from Thunder Bay Ontario, presently residing in Innisfil Ontario, announce his sudden passing early November 14, 2022.

Ian was born in Kenora, April 28, 1957, to John Adam Rutledge of Glasgow Scotland and Mary Louise Rutledge (nee McLeod) of Kenora Ontario. He received his HBSW from Lakehead University, June 1987, and experienced a major source of pride working as a Social Worker at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.

The greatest joy in his life was that of raising his three daughters. From the daily home cooked meals greeting them after school, often shared with friends, the frequent outings to parks and community events, to being a willing audience member at every dance, music, and school recital, he displayed his love and support. He was there for it all. His grandchildren became an extended source of happiness, proudly anticipating the birth of each and enjoying watching them grow. The well being and happiness of his family meant the most to him. At the end of every phone call, when he said, “remember,” we would respond, “I love you.”

As a member of the Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation community, he felt a deep sense of pride for his Indigenous heritage and loved to instruct his children and grandchildren the culture and traditions.

Thank you to the greatest father — for always putting us first and being there for every moment of our lives. We will honour your memory and speak of you often.

May your spirit rise- A sun that never sets burns on. May the memories of you live on forever. We love you Dad.

Ian is predeceased by his father, John Rutledge, mother Mary Rutledge, father-in-law Tony Peel, brother Maynard Rutledge, and sister Linda Hardy. Left behind are his daughters Kathleen Rutledge, Chelsea Paulin (Erik), Abigail Rutledge (Adam Jourdain), their mother Jennifer Rutledge, grandchildren Audrey, Lily, Gordana, Emily, Erik Jr. and Kristofer, mother-in-law Marjorie Peel, brother John Rutledge, sister MaryLee Legros (Dale), nephews Russel Hardy (Christine), and Duncan Quinn (Nikole), and nieces Jasmine Hardy and Eleanor Kovacs.
